Getting Started in Art!

Updated: Dec 24, 2021

I never in a million years thought I'd be where I am today, here with a webpage, a blog, a Facebook page, artwork in a local gallery and a growing journey with my wearable art designs made possible with Le Galeriste of Montreal, Canada.

In younger years I thought art, lessons, no way... Too busy, not enough time but then here I am. During the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic I found myself in complete despair. Not because of the pandemic itself but because the love of my life, my companion in all things was hospitalized with what I believed was the end of US! I was not able to visit him in the hospital due to restrictions and the lock down of public buildings, so I found art. At that time, it was something to keep me busy, my mind off of the worse, and safe from the unknown. Safely, I was able to control what I put on paper or so I thought. I started with a 22" by 30" canvas and several old quarts of house paint. I applied color in any shape and color. Each hour, every day was a new shape, a new color with each one representing the devastation I felt. I grew deeper and deeper into despair and would stand back and look. Some days were bright while others were dark. The layers of paint built as my fears and anxiety built. The process was interesting to say the least.

As things turned more positive and I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and moved to inspirational rock painting. I painted what I felt and saw growth with each stroke. I placed them in mailboxes to inspire others and felt positive feedback.

Here I am today expressing the beginning of my art process and to feeling courageous and confident. I have a long way to go but am thankful for every positive word of encouragement I receive from both friends and strangers. Today my life is filled with art.

Check back as I grow my page and thanks so much for joining me on my journey!

Kathy
